The Fork is to restaurant booking as the takeaway apps are to, well, takeaways – they centralise all the different options (if you live in London or another big city, these number literally in the thousands) and allow you to sort them by cuisine or any one of a number of other categories, and then book them for yourself. In other words, that dish you keep seeing on your friends’ Insta stories? This will (hopefully) give you the tools to make it. These are literally pulled from both those social networks, but they have written methodologies beside them, too. TB Feastyįeasty is the closest food and cooking comes to a full-blown social network: a sort of Instagram and TikTok rolled into one, offering users a feed – no pun intended – in which they can browse recent recipes from their favourite chefs. You’ll be amazed at the quality and range on offer (hint: try to be near a Patisserie Valerie at closing time). But that’s where the app comes in: open it up at 5pm and see what’s on offer nearby. The catch, of course, is that you have to be at the right place at the right time to pick up the day’s surplus sandwiches and sundries, and you’re restricted to what hasn’t sold during opening hours. Too Good To Go is almost too good to believe: an app that will set you up with end-of-day cut-price deals or even, if you’re lucky, free food from restaurants and cafes. It’s set apart from the likes of Deliveroo and Just Eat by lieu of its sellers ranging from amateur growers and (vetted) home chefs to wholesalers. DELLIĭescribed by some in that time-honoured tech-comparative way as a sort of “Depop for food”, Delli is a marketplace for independent makers of food and drink to advertise their services and then sell their produce and products. And while there’s nowhere better to find a vast range of delicious recipes than the House & Garden website (of course), there are also a couple of recipe apps worth digging into before you dig in. There are dozens of apps out there worth using, from restaurant guides to ingenious systems for reducing food waste and finding cheap bites in the big cities and further afield.
